When form and narrative are removed from the surface, the trembling of the hand that draws the line and the diffusion of color diluted in water become vividly present. When I become sensitive to the nature of the material, I can allow the surface to yield to the voice of the material itself. What appears are waves of light produced as the material passes through the artist’s body and actions. It is not about drawing well, but about allowing and revealing the rawness of what is there. Through irregular and nonlinear gestures, the work acquires a continuous singularity.
