인생의 하루-1993년 5월 18일 A day in the life-May. 18. 1993, Mixed media, Dimensions variable,

 

These works were made on the theme City, Space of life. First I took photographs and recorded all sorts of sounds in various places on one day(\(\(\(\(\(May 18, 1993) in Seoul. In order to offer viewers as vivid an experience as possible of the images of the life of the city, I took unsteady Shots on slide film(people's shoes busily walking on the street) and double-speed sound effects(new stories on political and other incidents, noises from market places and subways, people talking, and commercials from many broadcasts). By contrasting the political turmoil of May 18, 1980, and the features of the same day of 13 years later, I tried to present the relationship of some incidents to ordinary daily life.

 

이 작품은 '도시, 그 삶의 공간' 이라는 테마 전을 위해 제작된 것이다. 1993년 5월 18일 하루동안 서울의 각 장소를 돌아다니며 사진 촬영과 각종 음향을 채집하였다. 관람자들에게 도시와 삶의 이미지를 가능한 구체적인 방식으로 경험시킬 수 있는 방법을 위해 준비된 나의 작업은 고정된 1컷의 흔들린 슬라이드 필름(혼잡한 거리를 바쁘게 오가는 사람들의 발 모습들)과 2배속으로 재생된 각종 음향들(지하철역과 시장의 소음들, 사람들의 대화, 각종 방송 매체들의 C.M. 및 시그널 음향들, 뉴스 등)이었다. 나는 1980년 5월 18일의 정치적 소용돌이와 13년 후 5월 18일의 모습을 대비시킴으로써 사건과 일상의 관계를 제시하고자 하였다.
