We are always looking at the surface of things—so said Kwak In-sik.

Even if one breaks a stone or tears through its skin,

another surface will appear.

Instead, I cover over the traces left by actions on the surface,

and inscribe again upon a surface thinly and loosely veiled.

As these surfaces accumulate out of alignment,

something other than density begins to overflow—

a non-quantifiable excess.

Traces of time, of the body, of sweat

passing through layer upon layer.

Unless sealed,

the events within the track will not close.

Is this, too, a surface?

우리는 늘 사물의 표면을 볼 뿐이라고 한 건 곽인식이었다.

돌을 깨고 표면을 찢어도 다시 표면일 터.

대신, 나는 표면의 행위가 남긴 흔적을 덮고,

성기고 옅게 덮인 표면에 다시 흔적을 남긴다.

이 표면들이 어긋나게 쌓이면,

밀도와는 다른 성격의 비정량적 잉여들이 넘쳐난다.

겹겹을 통과하는 시간과 몸과 땀의 흔적들.

봉인하지 않는 한,

트랙 속 사건들도 닫히지 않을 것이다.

이것도 표면인가?
